In Brief
It seems a little odd (blogs feel so 2005), but blogs are still an important way for companies to share their message and get people to visit their website. Blogs ultimately play an important role in driving business for many companies.
Imagine you’ve been hired to work as a writer for a company. You can pick the company, as well as the topic of your blog. I recommend you find a company that’s interesting to you and choose a topic that you already know something about.
Specific Directives and Requirements
Blog requirements:
Write an engaging main title.
Include at least two section headings that are also engaging.
The blog must end with at clear (and relevant to the blog topic) call to action. An example of a call to action is: (for a company selling gym memberships to companies) Visit GymPass.com today to learn how you can help transform your employees’ experience. Another example (for a nonprofit dedicated to pet adoption): Visit the Carroll County Pet Adoption website today — or visit us in Westminster — to learn more about how you can make a difference in a pet’s life.
The blog must be between 475 and 600 words (not counting the bio at the bottom).
Position the blog as “top of the funnel,” which means you should not mention the company/organization name unless it’s briefly at the very end (and even that isn’t necessary). The purpose of the blog is to drive traffic to your website by giving interesting information and insight on a relevant topic.
You must link to at least two (but no more than four) highly reputable sources, such as Pew Research studies, data from the US government or a university, scholarly/scientific journal articles, etc.
Include one bulleted list with between three and six items.
Include at the bottom of the document two free stock photos that could be posted with the blog. Include the URL for the image as well.
Use either https://unsplash.com or https://pixabay.com for stock photos.

Additional tips and information
• All images in your report should have captions.
• See the resources in the “Lecture Slides” folder on how to write well, as well as this article on how to write a blog post.
• Look at several company blogs to get ideas and see what a “good” blog post looks like. GymPass is a good example.
