In your final project presentation you will be asked to persuade a group of stakeholders to take a specific action within their company based on your discoveries from your data analysis.
The first step involves picking a dataset and getting to know the data of your dataset more intimately. Keep in mind while you are choosing a dataset whom your stakeholders will be. For example, if my dataset is about the Quality of Coffee Beans from farms around the world then my stakeholders may be a company that purchases large quantities of coffee beans like Starbucks, Caribou, or Folgers.
Step 1A: Begin by selecting a dataset that you’d like to analyze for your final project. Please feel free to select from this list of resources given for dataset acquisition.
Your dataset should be big enough to provide you with enough data to identify trends in your data. This means you must pick a dataset that has a minimum for 600 rows and 8 columns. A dataset that is too large can cause other issues in terms of PC performance. Be aware of the size of your dataset and the amount of compute power on your machine.
Step 1B: Begin getting to know your dataset by examining the structure and contents of the dataset. Look at the number of rows and columns, data types, and any missing values. Use your knowledge of Descriptive Statistics to calculate basic statistical measures such as mean, median, standard deviation, and range for numerical variables.
Submit a document including the following information.
size (total rows, total columns)
what are your data types
what variables have missing values
Pick three numerical variables, for each variable
calculate mean
median
mode
standard deviation
create a histogram
Identify outliers for each of the three variable and address a possible reason for the outliers that you see
