Your final paper will showcase your communications acumen built from the entire course. This final paper will be explained throughout the last few weeks of the course, with enough classroom discussion. Your final paper will focus as much on communications ethics as well as displaying your overall acumen. Each task must be answered within the overall body of your paper.
Scenario: You are the head of public relations for the regional arm of a national nonprofit, which helps blind child participate in gymnastics, Me Jump Western Washington (MJWW). Your board has decided to run a charity fundraising raffle which could raise $10 million by auctioning off a “Travel World” RV, donated by Travel World USA, Inc. This raffle has had the necessary state and federal approvals, and you are ready to go ahead. A person messages you with “information” stating that the raffle itself is in violation of several state and federal statutes, that they have information on the Travel World USA CEO which showcases him as an abusive executive toward his employees, and that MJWW has several staff ready to profit from this raffle should it go forth. The person has also created a YouTube channel, full of several videos with claims against MJWW’s raffle, Travel World USA, and MJWW in general. The Travel World USA CEO has no knowledge of the person, the accusations against him, and is very hurt that these suggestions are being made because of his donation to the raffle.
Task 1: Do you or do you not respond directly to the person with the complaint, and if you respond, what do you respond with?
Task 2: How do you handle the unproven claims against Travel World USA CEO and protect the relationship with Travel World USA in order to keep the RV donation, etc. intact?
Task 3: Showcase your overall communications plan in relationship to the raffle, as well as any media inquiry responses with origin of the person’s complaint.
Task 4: What are the steps that you can do, internally, along with human resources, etc., in order to ensure the integrity of MJWW’s raffle, as well as your staff, in regards to the claims of raffle profits?
Task 5: If social media catches hold of this story, but only showcases the outrageous claims against MJWW as fact, does this scenario become unwinnable?
Task 6: Provide a SWOT analysis of the entire raffle, complaint and relationship with Travel World USA CEO.
