Step 1: Your Initial Post
Your initial post is worth 5 points.
Scroll down to click the “Reply” button. You will then see a text box, where you will write your answers to the following questions. After you have finished typing your answers, click “Post Reply” (the blue box on the bottom right corner of the text box). After you have posted your reply, you will see your classmates’ replies to these questions. You are then ready to do Step 2 below.
- Write down 2-3 sentences from this week’s assigned reading, “Love is Sociological” that you find important or impactful. Please also indicate what page of the reading each sentence is on.
- Now that you have read “Love is Sociological,” think of a specific example of love that you have experienced and/or observed. Tell us what this example is. Then tell us how this example relates to what you have learned about structure, agency and reflexivity in this week’s course material. Be sure that your answer follows the following guidelines:
- Remember that your answer should rely only on course material and that you should clearly indicate in your answer which course material you are relying upon. To do this, you should put in parentheses the following information after each sentence or passage that references class material: the title of the reading or the Canvas page in this Week 9 module (e.g., “What is Social Structure, etc), as well as the relevant page numbers if you are indicating a reading. - Social structure plays a role in the choices we make (“Structure and the Individual” pg. 5). There are multiple elements of social structure that all shape the options available to us (“What is Social Structure?”).

- Note that your answer to this question is graded on how you engage course material rather than how accurate your analysis of love is. I want you to reflect on the concepts of structure, agency and reflexivity as you’ve learned in this week’s course material, and use the concept of love to do so.

Step 2: Respond to Your Classmates
This portion of the assignment is worth 5 points.
Respond to at least two classmates by doing the following (For instructions on how to respond to a classmate’s reply, click hereLinks to an external site. and scroll down to “Thread a Discussion Reply”):
- Respond to classmates that does not already have a lot of responses.
- Answer both of the following 2 questions:
- Respond to your classmate’s initial post however you would like, but just be sure to reference particulars of their answers in doing so.
- It seems that ChatGPT and other AI platforms are going to significantly change the structure of schooling. How do you think this change will impact you as a student? What are things that we as teachers can do to continue to guide your learning of important subjects? Please note that in your answer, I am looking for your own personal reflections, not ‘factual’ information you can find on ChatGPT. =)
