Informative Analysis Research Essay
Topic: Understanding America’s chronic health crisis
Please construct a 5-6 page Informative Analysis Research paper based on the prompt
question below. The paper should follow standard MLA guidelines and citations, be typed
in 12 point Times New Roman font, and use 4-6 sources.
Purpose: Inform and educate your intended audience on the issue/question below. Your
essay should further the audience’s understanding in an accurate and detailed manner.
Intended Audience: Those who have an interest in this subject area, but who are not
experts. They may have done some preliminary research, but desire to know more about
the topic. (If someone were to Google this topic and your paper came up, you want to be
helpful and in a position as a resource, rather than a broad summary of the topic or just a
standard research paper. You want to inform in a meaningful way).
Analysis: Break down the following question(s) and topic to a more manageable and
understandable point. You’re not trying to encompass the entirety of the subject matter
(that might take an entire book), but you want to provide detailed information to help
understand one or even several critical factors contributing to the problem. There are a
number of factors to consider and areas in which you could endeavor; you have to decide
which one(s) to focus on.
Question: What are the leading contributing factors to the rise of America’s chronic disease
culture? How do we address this growing concern? What are some of the contributing
factors in our food systems, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, etc? How does health in this
country compare to other countries?
Based on our class discussion, I want you to narrow down the focus of your informative
essay (what questions do YOU have in this area that YOU want answered? Chances are
other people do too). Class brainstorming session will provide a lot of possibilities, but of
course there are some additional possibilities we may not cover in class that you might
think of on your own.
To successfully complete this assignment, you will need to: A) becomes familiar with some
of the major factors involved with this crisis, B) use reliable and relevant research to see if
your hypothesis has merit (using scholarly research), and C) produce a detailed 5-6 page
essay informing your audience about the money and life satisfaction
