IT’S FOUR (4) PARTS!!!
Part 1:
For this assignment, you will use Connect – Extend – Challenge Routine. This routine helps to connect new ideas to prior knowledge. Reflect on the different types of standardized tests learned in the chapter (POWERPOINT ATTACHED, 0132481316), reliability and validity and the best suggested types of tests for young children. Make sure to include the following:
CONNECT: How are ideas and information presented CONNECTED to what you already knew? You can add pictures, titles of books, links to websites, etc. to show your connections.
EXTEND: What new ideas did you get that EXTENDED or pushed your thinking in new directions?
CHALLENGE: What is still CHALLENGING or confusing for you to get your mind around? What questions, wonderings or puzzles do you now have?
Part 2:
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to analyze how test scores are interpreted and used to report student progress and program effectiveness.
Directions:
This assignment includes two parts.
Part 1:
Develop a Venn Diagram explaining the differences and common characteristics between norm-referenced and criterion-referenced tests.
Part 2:
Visit (or interview) with an elementary school counselor/teacher to find out how standardized test results are used and reported, especially in the area of parental reporting.
Discuss with a teacher of children with special needs how standardized tests are used to identify such children and create individual educational plans (IEP) for them. Reflect on the process used with one child without including any names.
Then, develop a report on how to best report the results of the standardized tests for both cases and what specific plan(s) can be developed to improve the scores.
Part 3:
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to analyze and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using performance-based assessments and to communicate the reliability and validity of these instruments to parents.
Directions:
Think about what you have read in chapter 8. Hypothesize that your school is now using performance assessments as one assessment strategy to measure children’s progress. You are preparing for a school–family meeting to discuss the new type of assessment. Study carefully the advantages and disadvantages of using performance assessments. Be prepared to discuss these with the parents. Identify three different performance assessments you use in the classroom and be prepared to demonstrate how you can ensure that they are valid and reliable.
