Please do not use AI to write the paper. My professor is really big on recognizing using AI.
The instructor-assigned overarching topic for the SELD-P for this semester is ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.
AI is a relevant and current “hot topic” that is an emerging issue impacting education, special education, and special education leadership and has legal, regulatory, and ethical implications for special education. An issue that leaders in the field of special education must contend with now. The student determines the scope and pathway they take with the instructor-assigned topic, gathers and analyzes the scholarly research, and synthesizes the information from the research to propose a conclusion and next steps (the “Plan”).
Synthesis Matrix
Secure and review seminal research related to the instructor-assigned general overarching topic
Clearly discriminate among seminal sources and use publications in scholarly journals.
To be considered for a level four (highest rating) on this criterion, you must demonstrate skillful use of more than five (5) high-quality, credible, relevant sources to develop ideas that are appropriate for the discipline and genre of the writing.
The articles you select for your topic will most likely not include the words “special education leadership” in the title.
Complete Synthesis Matrix to clearly identify themes. Refer back to SELD-P Academic Research and Writing Resources as needed.
Students should not attempt to complete an outline or write the SELD-P (Key Assessment) without completing the Synthesis Matrix first.
The completed Synthesis Matrix chart is submitted as part of the final SELD-P but does not count toward the total SELD-P page count.
Outline
Decide how to organize your SELD-P literature review
Refer to your completed Synthesis Matrix for themes

The Outline is submitted as part of the final SELD-P but does not count toward the total SELD-P page count.
Students should not attempt to write the SELD-P (Key Assessment) without developing an outline.
Cover Page

Refer to SELD-P Academic Research and Writing Resources as needed. These resources provide an APA Template.
The Cover Page is submitted as part of the final SELD-P but does not count toward the total SELD-P page count.
Introduction
Introduce your issue and explain why it is important to the field of education in general (typically one paragraph).
Once you have established the importance of the issue in the general realm of education, narrow down the topic to special education leadership.
Establish the context of the issue and the background of the issue as it relates to special education leadership. (Note: The broad topic provided by the instructor impacts special education , thus impacting special education leadership.)
A thesis statement must be established and included in the introduction.
Refer to SELD-P Academic Research and Writing Resources as needed. The thesis generator may help you structure your thesis statement.
Once the context and the background are established, summarize in the introduction what the paper will discuss (i.e., the main contributions of the research you have completed for this assignment and why the work is important and/or significant).
This portion of the introduction will set the precedence of the paper and prepare readers for what is to come.
Clearly identify your thesis or purpose statement. For the purposes of this SELD-P, put your thesis /purpose statement in bold black print.
The introduction should be no more than two to three pages long.

Literature Review
The literature matters because it provides the evidence you need to strengthen your identified topic as an issue that impacts special education and supports the next steps you propose in your conclusion.
You should include both analysis and synthesis of the selected literature. Do not merely summarize.
Refer to the SELD-P Academic Research and Writing Resources. The resources include an entire section devoted to distinguishing between summary and analysis, as well as a section devoted to synthesis.
Connect your literature to the topic/issue and its impact on special education.
Keep your thoughts at the forefront of the paper. Although you are using the literature as evidence to prove your point, try to begin each paragraph with a statement that you believe to be relevant and true to the issue, then follow it up with the evidence from the literature.
Be sure to use evidence (i.e., citations), but use direct quotes sparingly (paraphrasing in your own words with a citation is the best way to go).
Be sure you provide citations, even when paraphrasing. Anytime you communicate an idea that does not belong to you, you must cite it!!! Refer to the SELD-P Academic Research and Writing Resources section on Quoting, Paraphrasing and Summarizing.
The literature review should constitute most of your written paper, typically between 6 to 8 pages.
