Class, you need to make sure that once you post your reply, it fits in the windo

April 2, 2024

Class, you need to make sure that once you post your reply, it fits in the window so that readers do not have to scroll back and forth in order to read it. If you don’t correct it, your grade will be lower. If you need help with it, call the HelpDesk or email Rachel King **************. ALSO.  please, do NOT use my references.  If you haven’t read it — you cannot use that as one of your support/citations. That goes for the textbook authors as well. You ONLY put a citation and a reference from what you have read. If you have questions about this — ask. Dr. G.
Class, for this week discuss why ethics for the vocational counselor is important. Use examples. State which part of the ethics that your find more beneficial for you as the counselor and for your client/s. Also, add whether you see the social issues that stigmatize individuals who have disabilities as waning. In other words, is the society at large becoming more educated and sensitive to those who have disabilities.
For instance, I view quite a few movies and television productions that come out of the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. I have seen where those who have disabilities that are apparent (e.g., wheelchair, missing limbs, Down’s, cerebral palsy, hearing impaired [deaf]) are being part of the story lines more and more.
Does having this type of aforementioned visual presentation in entertainment venues help society at large know more about individuals with disabilities, and does it help with our becoming accustomed to individuals who might otherwise be considered as different?
This is an in-depth discussion with at least 500 words (no more than 850 please, if you can help it). Be sure not to use any other person’s citations including mine.  For instance, I use Koch and Rumrill (2017) — if you have not read this book, you cannot use the citation.  You can only use what you have read as support and for citing purposes.
Class, APA has changed the way we cite multiple authors within the text. For two authors, both have to be cited  such as in Koch & Rumrill (2017). For three or more authors within the text (not the reference list), you can use et al (Rubin et al., 2016).  I know this is a change from what I initially stated. We had to include all the authors for the fist time but that has changed. The reference list has to contain the names of the three authors as you have been doing.)
Any questions, please ask.

Week 3 Mini-Lecture
Class, for the past several weeks, we have been discussing laws that aide those who have disabilities in all areas including the work arena (Rubin, Roessler, and Rumrill, 2017).  Being able to work is important for everyone; however, it is crucial for those who have disabilities and who want to enjoy a quality of life that is on par with the status quo (Koch and Rumrill, Jr., 2017).  Though laws such as the ADA can contribute to lessening such factors as discrimination, access to buildings, education, and employment, it cannot regulate how others view and handle disabilities from a social perspective (Rubin et al., 2017).
Although, most of the discussion by Rubin et al. (2017) revolves around those with mental illness, the idea that social implications are there for most disabilities is important for this course.  For instance, if an individual receives a disabling injury that resulted from their driving under the influence and crashing their vehicle, they most likely will be viewed differently by part of society than someone who received the exact same injury from someone crashing into them.  Consequently, while there are factors that play into how individuals with disabilities are perceived from different angles such as medical, religious, and cultural, the perspectives that come from a sociological view point have a large impact on the lives of the disabled (Koch and Rumrill, 2017).
Culture plays an important part from a societal perspective for those who have been born with certain disabilities (http://nationalconference.adaptivesportsusa.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Cultural-Perspective-of-Disability-J.Hoffman.pdf). For instance, in most westernized societies, those who are afflicted with a disability have been able to receive help in many areas including employment, however, within these countries are diverse cultures that may see a disability as something unclean, unnatural, shameful, etc. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5542666/).  Cultural considerations then needs to be part of any counselor’s repertoire when regarding the social aspect of employment and workplace as well.
For this week, we will be discussing societal views and how they impact those with disabilities. We also will be discussing ethics from the standpoint of how VRC need to behave when it comes to specific circumstances.
After listening to the audio as well as reading the required material, go to Discussions and reply to this week’s question.
