Review
For this discussion, you will conduct a word study in order to create and share your own infographic on a key theme from the Bible.
1. First, watch The Bible Project Character of God Visual Commentary, Episode 1: Overview of Exodus 34:6-7 (opens in a new window) in order to get an idea how we can learn about the meaning of words in the Bible based on their literary context.
2. Then, for the discussion choose one of the following Bible Project videos to explore a biblical word in its original context.
* Martus/Witness (opens in a new window)
* Euangelion/Gospel (opens in a new window)
* Khata/Sin (opens in a new window)
* Pesha/Transgression (opens in a new window)
* Avon/Iniquity (opens in a new window)
* Yakhal/Hope (opens in a new window)
* Shalom/Peace (opens in a new window)
* Agape/Love (opens in a new window)
* Chara/Joy (opens in a new window)
3. Finally, conduct some additional research on your word using the tools at Blue Letter Bible (opens in a new window).
* Resource: How to use the Blue Letter Bible (opens in a ew window). You can also use the resources of the APU Library.
Discuss
Your infographic should highlight these elements:
1. Language (what did this word mean in the original biblical language? Are there multiple or nuanced meanings?)
2. Bible (where are some of the key places this word appears throughout the Bible?)
3. Theology (what does this word teach us about God?)
4. Today (what does this theme mean in our current time and context?)
After you create your infographic, post it to the discussion board with a brief explanation of why you chose your topic and the information you presented.
Post at least four substantive responses to your colleagues throughout the week. Responses should demonstrate active participation in academic discourse about texts and/or resources, connect relevant experience and academic knowledge, and communicate meaning with clarity and fluency. Responses could include suggestions for further resources, questions of clarification, or providing context and insight. Avoid simple posts of agreement; if you agree, explain why, and then thoughtfully further the conversation.
