1) Journal #1 Abrams’ “The Malice at the Palace: An Oral History of the Scariest

1) Journal #1
Abrams’ “The Malice at the Palace: An Oral History of the Scariest Moment in NBA HistoryLinks to an external site.” contains many voices narrating their view of the events of that night in Detroit in 2004.

Reading the article online is the best way to go as many “pop-up” boxes (red boxes with a number in them) provide additional detail and source background. Here is an example of a red box that is clicked on in the online article:
For this journal, read the online article and explore some of the “pop-up” boxes and see what they add to your reading experience. How do these boxes  help or hinder your reading? Do you like the online article style here with the pop-ups or is it distracting?
What can a text like this, an oral history, benefit or gain from additional pop-up boxes in terms of establishing credibility? Or, do you feel the pop-up boxes slow down the article and may be too much?
Write 250 words on the style and content of the online article and how your reading process works with it? You may also write anything the interests you in the writing prompt above as well as long as it is connected to the article in some way
2) Journal #2
Watch at least 45 minutes of the Netflix documentary “Untold: Malice at the PalaceLinks to an external site.” and discuss your reaction to seeing many of the people  you read about the oral history article and what they say. In other words, write a 250-word reaction to seeing and hearing the voices you read in the article and how the two sources (the oral history and the documentary film) agree and disagree or offer insights you noticed earlier or perhaps later? What does the documentary add the oral history does not or vice versa?
Another way to complete this journal is to discuss how some voices in the documentary film are given much more time to share their views and perspectives. Which people in the documentary film catch your attention the most, and why? Are they saying new things here in the film or is their restatement of what they said in the oral history more or less dramatic/impactful?

3) Journal #3
Go to Vimeo and find the film, “Quiet Storm: The Ron Artest StoryLinks to an external site.” and watch the film starting at 1hour, 7min until the end.
This is about 35 minutes that deals with the aftermath of the “Malice at the Palace” incident and what happened to Ron Atest as a result.
I think you may be surprised to see Artest’s journey here, so comment with at least 250 words on what you find interesting about what happens to him and also what you think of him as he offers his thoughts on this tumultuous part of his life.
