Culture, ethnicity, social, and gender differences
MRU promote our nursing students to develop cultural competence that enables them to deliver healthcare to diverse populations. These experiences empower nursing graduates to meet people where they are at, honoring their cultural beliefs and providing equitable care. By fostering cultural connections within our communities, community colleges and the associate degree nursing pathway contribute to the growth of graduates who are not only skilled healthcare professionals but also compassionate global citizens.
Nurses are responsible for creating a nonjudgmental, welcoming environment for all patients. Still, transgender and gender-nonconforming patients continue to face healthcare prejudices and feel unwelcome in healthcare environments. To provide gender-affirming holistic nursing care requires a paradigm shift from a gender-binary to a gender-inclusive world view with continual ongoing self-assessment for bias. Nurses must learn more about gender transition and gender-affirming care to engage in therapeutic gender-affirming care.
Assignment Instructions
Create a Power Point describing concepts of diversity, equity, inclusion and/or social determinants of health. Explain how a nurse might provide culturally congruent care by been culturally competent, having culture sensitivity, cultural knowledge, and using cultural assessment. Mention the Relationship between Nursing culturally congruent care and community engagement. How a nurse could affirm gender identity in nursing care: benefits, barriers, and best practices. The student will create a power point with a minimum of 3 slides for issues objective criteria, for a total of minimum 12 slides (Content slides, no including pictures, introduction, or references). All slides must include citations of reference used. Remember references should be from 5 years or less. The Power Point should include key elements identified to substantiate your presentation and provide appropriate references.
This assignment will count as an additional 5 % toward your final course score. The rubric will describe the evaluation method and score based on major concepts related to Culture, ethnicity, social, and gender differences.
