Do not write a paper. The skills listed should reflect the achievement of course learning outcomes. Below you will find a list of skills that you should accomplish and document in the journal. You may accomplish more than the items listed here, but you MUST accomplish all of the student course outcomes. List teaching strategies that were used (by you) or the preceptor. Were they successful? How did you determine the strategy was successful? (Review NU616 and NU605/606 textbooks) List the evaluation methods/assessments/testing strategies that were used (by you) or the preceptor. Be specific and use your 606 textbook as a guide. Describe how you assessed student learning needs, learning styles, and motivation to learn. Describe examples of student-centered communication utilized by you and/or the preceptor. Compare and contrast the preceptor’s syllabus with the syllabus in your 605 textbook. Describe the advising process. Is this process effective or not? How so? What evidence was used to make this conclusion? What is the academic honesty policy and compare the policy to your textbooks/evidence. Describe the tenure/promotion policies. How do these policies compare to peer institutions? What is the policy on teaching load? Scholarship? Service? Describe the types of committee meetings you have attended. Share what was learned at the meeting. Look at the college of nursing’s mission and goal. Is it congruent with the institution? How so? Spend time in the simulation lab. What was learned? Describe how the simulation lab follows national standards for simulation? How did this practicum experience help you become a better teacher? What was the most memorable experience today? What was the most challenging experience for the day? Why? Teach at least one class and describe it in the journal. Share your test item analysis experience. Share the nursing test administration policies and procedures. Review your 606 textbook, to analyze to determine congruence with the textbook. How do students evaluate teaching? How does the teacher evaluate his/her effectiveness? Describe challenges faced by students of different cultures, ethnicity, and gender. Describe what you learned about accessibility and Title IX. How does the College of Nursing support faculty development? How do they orientate faculty and clinical instructors? Do they expect faculty to perform research? What is a normal workload for a faculty member? How do they accomplish inter-professional collaboration expectations for student nurses?
