PowerPoint Presentation

Topic: Child and Adolescent Mental Health

For this assignment the student will develop a 5 to 10 minute PowerPoint presentation to be uploaded to BlackBoard. In this presentation, the student will discuss a service need in relation to a specific population (e.g. long term care for frail elders; child care and single working parents; affordable housing for low wage working families; case management for refugees) within an arena/community in which the student is either placed in field or in which they have lived, worked or volunteered. Once the need, population and arena have been identified, the student will prepare a focused presentation to address the need and include the following:

Introduction

The introduction should include a belief description of the population and the related need. The introduction must also include a description of the focus of the presentation.

Description of the Population and Need

Provide a description of the population and an overview of the related need. The discussion should be guided by the frameworks in Netting et al. (2017).  If possible, cite newspaper articles to help elucidate why the need should be addressed (e.g., scope of the problem, cost of not addressing the need, etc.)

Process for Identifying Advocacy Goal to Address the Need

As background for the advocacy strategy campaign, each student should describe the process taken to identify an advocacy goal (see “Advocacy Strategy Planning Guide”). This process may include convening a meeting of stakeholders to participate in a discussion of the problem and possible solutions; reviewing sources to help further define or inform the definition of the problem; brainstorming with co-workers a list of possible solutions to the problem that could be the focus of the advocacy campaign; and selecting the final solution as the focus of the advocacy strategy campaign.

Selecting Appropriate Strategies and Tactics

Students should provide a rationale for the selection of the goal/solution they select as the focus of their advocacy strategy. This rationale should include three parts as discussed in the textbook in Chapter 10:  Task 1) Assess political and economic feasibility; Task 2) Select a change approach; Task 3) Select strategies and tactics.

Students should provide a description of and rationale for the elements they identified through this framework. It should be clear to the audience how the population impacted by the need will be actively engaged and empowered to participate in the development of the goal.

Conclusion

Students should provide a brief summary, including any concluding thoughts about the advocacy campaign.

Style

Your PowerPoint should be a comprehensive outline of your presentation that adheres to APA 6th edition style guidelines.  Students should use topics as headings and subheadings in their presentation to ensure that all parts of the assignment are covered, as well as increases the audience’s comprehension. Slides should be visually appealing and free or errors.
