- Moral distress is a global problem within the health professions that arises from conflict of an agent’s moral identity with experiences within clinical environments. Moral distress arises in a number of situations and has numerous effects upon students and clinicians, including preventing them from doing what they believe is the right. Implicit bias is a form of bias that occurs automatically and unintentionally, that nevertheless affects judgments, decisions, and behaviors. Research suggests that implicit bias can pose a barrier to recruiting and retaining a diverse healthcare workforce.
