In your role as director of the local public health department, recall the public health problem you identified in the Week 4 Logic Model Development Micro-view assignment. Take a moment to review and briefly list the goals, objectives, approaches, and outcomes you planned for that specific health problem.
Your readings this week discussed both designs for outcome assessment in terms of establishing association and designs for outcome evaluation in terms of establishing causation. Critically evaluate the outcomes (short and long term) you planned in the Week 4 Logic Model Development Micro-view assignment, and discuss which design for outcome would be most appropriate: establishing an association or establishing causation. Be sure to use evidence from your readings. (For example: What is the week of analysis: individual or population level? Is baseline data available? Does the ecological design show the best fit?)
Response Guidelines
Read and respond to your peers’ posts according to FEM guidelines.
In your role as director of the local public health department, you want to prevent evaluation design failure; after all, the strategic planning process is too costly and valuable. Carefully critique your colleagues’ posts using the goals, objectives, approaches, outcomes, and design identified. Decide which design failure (that is, process theory failure, intervention mechanism theory failure, or evaluation design failure) may be most likely to occur. Be sure to define the design failure and discuss your perspective on its likely occurrence. Then suggest a strategy to mitigate failure.
