Format your essay like this:
-Intro
Hook
Background: what is the general topic that these sources address (do not cite the sources in your intro—you’ll use them in the body).
Thesis: Present your own thoughts about our society’s relationship to material things.
-Body: at least three body paragraphs that do the following:
Start with topic sentences that present what you will show in that paragraph (topic sentence are neither facts nor quotes).
Introduce, react to, and only very briefly summarize the sources (do not let the paper become a summary–it is not).
Identify the sources’ respective conclusions and the premises used to support their conclusions.
Any hidden assumptions?
Reinforce or challenge the sources’ arguments and premises
Present your own thoughts on the subject. First person and personal experience is fine.
-Conclusion:
Reinforce your thesis and your thoughts about Graham’s article and John de Graaf’s documentary. End with your conclusions on the topic of material wealth.
