Assignment 4: Research Paper (30% of the final grade)
The final assignment – the Research Paper is an opportunity for students to explore a certain aspect, perspective, theory or trend within the study of global migration. As a critical analysis of the topic outlined in the proposal (Assignment 2), the final paper needs to have a clear focus on the chosen issue by building on the theme(s) covered in the proposal. The goal of the final paper is to present one’s own interpretation, evaluation and argument backed up by others’ ideas and information.
Criteria for the Final Paper
To be considered for full marks, your final paper should meet the following criteria:
Consists of five to eight pages in length (not including the cover page and bibliography),
Calibri/Times New Roman font size 12, double-spaced, and 1” margins.
Uses APA conventions, including the cover page and the bibliography.
Integrates materials from the readings and other scholarly materials.
Includes citations for a minimum of eight scholarly sources (preferably dated within the last 10 years).
The cover page should include: the paper title, your name and student number, course code and name, instructor’s name and date.
General Guidelines for the Final Paper Structure
Your paper should have:
An introduction that includes an argument/thesis statement and a clear overview of the chosen topic.
The second section discussing the key aspects of the chosen topic including a literature review and discussion proving the argument or thesis. The literature review should include point of views both for and against the essay thesis.
The third section containing a deeper understanding of the topic, including a discussion of possible areas that may need further research.
The fourth section containing a brief discussion of examples (if applicable) and areas of improvement.
The last section containing a summary of the issue and the proposed strategies for improvement.
