Final paper for the course.
Please write a paper comparing/contrasting the original “Poem of Mulan” (attached below) and the 2020 Dsiney adaptation of Mulan. The paper should critically analyze the (attempted) modernization of Mulan’s story and her character, and touch upon the possible issues that occur when popularizing/modernizing a traditional Chinese legend.
Paper instructions:
4-5 pages, double spaced, 12 Times New Roman, 1-inch margins.
Your paper should identify a central thesis (i.e. a clearly articulated thesis statement) and be argued consistently engaging two sets of evidence: textual (narrative, aesthetics, and formal dimensions) and contextual (specific historical, social, and political contexts).
Provide a title for your paper.
Secondary sources from outside class are welcome; be sure to cite your sources to avoid plagiarism.
A brief synopsis can be used when necessary, e.g. introducing a text from outside class or leading toward an argument. However, please avoid excessive plot summary.
Use either MLA or Chicago style for your citation.
