The Introduction explains the purpose of the exegesis to analyse the text being adapted.

The selected text is analysed into its parts: Plot, character, setting, themes, and concepts covered in the first week of the course

Sources of ideas and quotes used in the exegesis are identified.

Content: paragraphs: (at least 6 topic paragraphs: one for each of the following elements related to the actual text being analyzed as the text to be adapted. Also 3 paragraphs linking to the screenplay. Plus the introduction and Conclusion paragraphs.)

1.The text to be adapted is discussed in term of trauma or Woolf’s themes in her essay. (Trauma or feminist space in which to write).

2.The characters in the text adapted text are analysed psychologically.

3.The traumatic element in the adapted text is clearly identified and explained.

4.The plot of the adapted text is clearly explained (so it is related to other texts that are similar)

5.The narrator’s or author’s point of view in the adapted text is discussed.

6.Key motifs, images, and language features are identified and discussed in the adapted text as possible ideas for your own screenplay text that is being developed.

Adaptability paragraphs: A clear reason is provided for adapting the text: challenging it, updating it, transforming it for a reason, etc. This is where you criticize the text and point out the elements that you think need to be stress and or changed and explain why.
Paragraphs inking to the parts of the screenplay you have been developing:

a. Comparison and contrast is provided in which the elements of the developing script and the original text are set out10

b. Lines from poems, songs, and other texts are integrated as possible sources for dialogue or inclusion in other ways in the adapted text and reasons given for possible inclusion: explain why they are used and what they may mean in the new text you are writing as a screenplay.

c. A paragraph where at least 4 other texts studied in the course are discussed in relation to the adapted text.

Overall coherence and cohesion of your exposition:

There is a logical connection (or thread) made clear between the various texts studied and the text being adapted.

Evidence of covering all the types of texts (poem, song, film(apocalypse now), short story(the fall of house usher), play(oedipus rex), longer fiction(the hound of baskerville) etc.) in the course is provided.

Point to keep in focus when planning and writing your essay: show the reader the way you create a mosaic of the various types of texts. Emphasize the ideas of the mise en scene, mise en abyme, pastiche, trauma, metamorphosis, mosaic, and dialogue in your exposition where appropriate in your analysis of a text or when comparing texts.
