Question 1
Hi class. With translational research, 2 approaches are used including comparative effectiveness analysis and implementation science (Weiss et al., 2018). Why is the 2 approach methodology used for translational research? Dr.Wright

Question 2
Hi class. What is the specific difference between reliability and validity? Can you give an example in real life? Why is this important in research? Dr. Wright
question 3
Standardized evaluation methods are given preference in the measurement literature due to how reliability is typically defined and operationalized. We expand the range of viable high-stakes assessment practices to include those that honor the purposes that students bring to their work and the contextualized judgments of teachers by considering alternative hermeneutic approaches to serving the critical epistemological and ethical purposes that reliability serves. This is accomplished by considering alternative hermeneutic approaches to serving the critical epistemological and ethical purposes that reliability serves (Moss, 1994). In the context of research methodology, validity and reliability are two factors that can be distinguished from one another despite their close relationship. In addition, they are the two most fundamental components of research studies that are both helpful and dynamic. Researchers have access to various validity tests that can help them establish whether or not their measurements are accurate representations of the real world. It is possible to conclude that the measurement is reliable and accurate if the instrument used does not exhibit any signs of bias and if it is possible to re-take the test with the same results.
The community-based, multi-phase study that Rodriguez et al. (2020) described in their article on translational research was carried out at three locations: New York City, Buffalo, New York, and Arkansas. The research was broken up into two parts: first, an evaluation of the appropriateness and effectiveness of the newly developed educational curriculum for breast and cervical cancer prevention guidelines, and second, an update of the educational curriculum for breast and cervical cancer prevention guidelines (Rodriguez et al., 2020). At each of the three locations, participants in an educational program were given quizzes and questionnaires to fill out before and after the event. The educational program, the test, and the surveys given out to the attendees were identical for everyone. The measurement procedures were the same at every location and for every participant. Given this information, it is reasonable to conclude that the research instruments had a high level of validity.
The research study’s findings demonstrated not only a high level of validity but also a high level of reliability. The pre-and posttest outcomes showed that the newly introduced educational materials were successful. This is shown by the fact that, on average, participants’ post-test scores were 31.5% higher than their pretest scores (Rodriquez et al., 2020). The reliability of these findings can be attributed to the fact that the tests in question were all scored in the same manner, free of bias, and could be repeated.
Question4
Translational research is used to describe a process by which the results of research are done in a laboratory are used to develop new ways to diagnose and treat diseases. A data collection tool that I would use for my research would be patient satisfaction. I would want this implemented both inpatient and the outpatient settings, though the challenge would be confirming that the patients completed this to the best of their abilities. I would want to be able to obtain as accurate information as possible to further improve patient outcomes and the overall patient experience. Potential barriers that I would have to overcome would be getting access to the clinic’s patients records. I would try to use translational research to overcome data collection barriers by opening up the opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration to help with potential knowledge gaps. I would try to give both the clinics and hospitals all the information that would be collected from their patients and how the finding from the data would help improve their daily practice. Eldaly states that “patient satisfaction is an indispensable measure of the quality of any health-care service, including telemedicine services. This importance arises from the fact that satisfied patients are both more likely to comply with their treatment plans as well as cooperate with their health care providers” (2022).
question 5
A simple design and user-friendly data collection tool that I could use for my research are surveys. There are several survey-making and delivery tools available for free online. Some that come to mind are google forms and survey monkey. Some research has been done on addressing some of the barriers that come along with surveying for data. One useful technique to employ is community-based participatory research (CBPR). CBPR involves stakeholders for the community in the design of the research and in this case, the data collection (Barr & McNamara, 2022). Involving the community ensures unique barriers can be addressed preemptively instead of reactively. Having larger and more in-touch stakeholders allows for more accurate identification of realistic challenges throughout the research.
