reply to classmate post. I need it for TODAY my test results are neutral
Everyone has biases towards certain subjects or people regardless of whether they think they know their biases or believe they have none, this is my opinion on the matter. However, just because you may have biases does not mean that you are unable to control your actions regardless of your biases. For my results of the Implicit Association Test, it was suggested that I have a slight automatic preference for African Americans over European Americans. I can’t say whether or not this is correct however, In fact, If I am honest, I would say that I feel more comfortable around people of Hispanic culture over skin color because that’s just what I grew up around. I will say this however, that I believe that this method of testing to show whether or not you are biased towards a certain group is not accurate in my opinion. It doesn’t show the full picture of what a person is really thinking in their mind. Rather I would see this as more of an educated guess based off of some research. Personally, I don’t feel any difference between whites and blacks and It has never mattered to me, but as I’ve said previously what I say and subconsciously feel may be two separate things. I believe that people are going to be more comfortable with other people that they have grown around. From my experience, I would say that Hispanics in general are very stereotypical but not racist. I have known many great friends from my family that we consider family regardless of their skin color or origin, yet my parents are extremely stereotypical of other races and cultures. So I disagree with this test not necessarily because of the results, but because I just don’t trust the method of this test.
