The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
I would like to have my essay discuss the following items that relate to me:
1. I live in Albania, a former communist country and my family was persecuted during that period (discuss how this has impacted my life and how this obstacle has made me value the american freedom). The bias of growing up in this community was tough but I was able to navigate and overcome it through my strong will and determination and the support of my family and the example they set having endured the tough years of communism without shaking their beliefs.
2. I am a first generation student, helping my family with their small business. After covid 19 our family business was shut down and we had severe financial hardship. After graduating high school in June 2022, I had to support my family
financially and it is part of why I took a gap year.
3. During my gap year I also volunteered at a local nonprofit for visually impaired community in my city of Lezhe, Albania. There is a predominant large community of visually impaired people in Lezhe that were predisposed to tougher conditions as a result of covid. I have helped run a local center of training this community in using computers to enable them to get jobs in remote careers in IT that do not prejudice against this community.
