EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE PROJECT (Due 12/12)
Using a powerpoint format, students will present their findings for the EBP project. The purpose of this project includes the following: (1) identify a clinical question using PICO, (2) obtain an agency practice protocol related to the clinical question, (3) review evidence from the literature on this clinical practice and consider how the role of a nurse leader can promote best practices to solidify rationale(s) for the EBP, (4) prepare a brief oral presentation of findings and (5) suggest nursing implications to increase compliance of protocol in the practice setting and improve outcomes. This project is worth 40% of the final grade.
For further details, you will begin in your clinical practice working with the nurse preceptor and based on observations in your clinical setting, formulate a clinical question using PICO as a framework. Collect and analyze the most recent evidence in the literature and compare it to the agency’s existing policy or guideline (if applicable). Using change and leadership theory as a guideline, determine how you would go about using the evidence to make a change to or enhance the existing practice guideline. See grading rubric for more details.
Nursing Implications and Considerations for Evidence based practice project as a nurse leader should include:
a) Are there identified benefits to the patient for applying evidence-based
practice recommendations?
b) Are there identified risks?
c) Do you anticipate any barriers to this change (i.e. cost, attitudes, education, etc.)?
d) As a change agent, how would you overcome these barriers?
