The purpose of quality improvement (QI) is to improve patient care and processes within an organization. QI projects don’t yield knowledge that can be used beyond a specific unit or organization. On page 195 of your Polit & Beck textbook, they discuss the QI model of Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA). Before embarking or starting the process of PDSA, there are three 3 questions that must be explored:
1. What are you trying to accomplish? (What is the aim or purpose of your improvement?)
2. How will you know if the change is an improvement? In other words, how will you know that your improvement is successful?
3. What changes can you make that will result in improvement?
Take a moment to think about a practice issue or organizational process that you would like to improve. Answer the three (3) questions above regarding that issue or process. Be sure to answer completely and thoughtfully.
