Faith Integration Discussion
Prompt 1:
Chapter 5 discusses research ethics, particularly as they relate to protecting human research subjects. Thoroughly read the chapter, focusing particularly on the ethical principles in the Belmont Report, which was developed in response to major cases of abuse that researchers had committed against research participants. For this discussion, do some preliminary research on at least one of those historic cases, such as the Nazi Medical War Crimes, the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, the Cold War Human Radiation Experiments, the Willowbrook Study, etc. Consider the discussion and scriipture provided in the Faith Integration Overview and your own research on the topic and thoughtfully respond. Make sure to provide a bit of background information on the case, as your classmates may be unfamiliar with it.
Consider the following questions to help you get started:
What do you think of the actions of the researchers in the study you chose? How can we prevent this kind of abuse from happening again?
As nurse researchers, how can you employ Christian principles, such as love, integrity, honesty, and treating others as brothers and sisters in Christ?
How does your own personal faith help you value the individual?
