Describe one example of a mistake or missed opportunity you experienced during practicum connected to one of the first five advanced competencies.
I will provide you with the example of a mistake. A transgender woman attends program dressed very provocatively. I reminded the client that as she has not adhered to the agency dress code, she is required to leave the program immediately. The client became verbally abusive towards me and then leaves the room. I informed my supervisor. Later on, during the day the same client dressed in the same outfit returns. This time she informs me this is her program group, and she is not leaving. The client reiterated her right to wear whatever she wants and why should it concern staff. I was seated in a chair the client was standing over me. I stood up and told the client she was right, she can wear what she wants, but this service has a dress code all staff and clients must comply with the dress code. The client repeated she would not leave her program group. I then informed the client I would not remain in the discussion group because of
refusal to leave the group whilst dressed inappropriately.
