My manager wants me to write Smart Goals: Below are his in structure:
-Write four goals, and Career Band Threads are Technical/Functional.
-What are your career aspirations in the next 1-2 and 5-10 years
-How will you Contribute to priorities and goals this year?
-What outcomes or results will you achieve?
-How will you measure the impact of your contribution?
-What Competencies do you need to strengthen?
-How will you grow and develop them
-What connection will you make to Clients?
+Specific on what specifically do you want to accomplish?
+Measurable on how you will quantify and measure successful completion.
+Achievable the goal to improve the business.
+Relevent on how the goal improves the business.
+Timely on when you will complete the goal.
+What outcomes and impact do you anticipate?
Example Below:
“The following examples illustrate the kinds of goals that should and should not be entered.
Participate in one marketing effort by sharing my technical expertise and contributing to a technical proposal by the end of Q3.
This is a good goal because it is specific (participate in marketing and proposal effort), measurable (one), achievable (realistic with your resources), relevant (contributes to our marketing and business development corporate goals), and timely (by the end of Q3).
Help resolve client challenges.
This is not a well-written goal because it is not specific (what’s the challenge?), measurable (how many challenges?), achievable or relevant (lacks specificity, so achievability and relevancy aren’t clear), timely (no deadline).
Enter time in my timesheet each day by 5:00 p.m.
Entering time is not a valid goal, as it is a compliance requirement for all employees”.
