Write a five-paragraph essay summarizing the major tenets/themes/beliefs of the Transcendentalists. You may use the notes I gave you on Transcendentalism to help you; however, it is important that you are able to summarize the major themes of transcendentalism in your own words.
– One body paragraph should compare/contrast Transcendentalism with Romanticism.
– Additionally, include a paragraph in which you reflect on what makes the beliefs of the Transcendentalists “American.”
– Finally, you also will want to include in your body how you see the beliefs of the Transcendentalists reflected in American values and beliefs today.
– You may also include notable figures in American history who embody the beliefs of the Transcendentalists.
– The summary should be supported by required readings AND any additional materials you choose. An analysis of literature is ineffective without the use of the literature.
– At least one well-developed in-text citation should be present in each of the body paragraphs of the essay.
– The essay should be written in MLA format (include the work-cited page).
I requested 3 sources just because there needs to be at least one quote in each body paragraph, but it does not matter how many sources you use to come up with the quotes as long as there is at least one from my required readings and one additional outside source.
I have provided a list of the readings from my textbook in a word document along with a link to a pdf of the Norton Anthology.
