Evidence-Based Care
OVERVIEW
Evidence-based nursing care benefits patient safety by keeping practices current and relevant, increasing nurses’ decision-making skills, and enhancing clinical judgment. Evidence-based care also has been shown to result in higher quality patient outcomes. In Module 4, the student evaluates a nursing policy and/or procedure in their practice setting using current research findings as a benchmark, and the student analyzes the effects of burnout and fatigue on patient safety.
Respond to one of the following discussion.
1.Choose a nursing intervention policy and/or procedure from your practice setting – NURSING
HOMES
Examples of policies include
1. time frame protocols on indwelling foley catheter care
2. flush and/or solution for peripheral and central lines
Use a NJ State Library search interface such as OVID, ProQuest, or EBSCOhost to find two research articles from peer-reviewed and indexed literature that relate to the policy. The articles must be written within the last five years. Summarize the outcome of the studies and compare/contrast the outcome of the study to the chosen policy.

2.Discuss the effects of nursing fatigue and burnout on patient care. When have you seen, experienced, or read about nursing fatigue? Explain three ways nurses can reduce fatigue and/or burnout in their nursing practice. Use a NJ State Library search interface such as OVID, ProQuest, or EBSCOhost to find two research articles from peer-reviewed and indexed literature that relate to the policy.
