Write a narrative argument (Times New Roman, font size 12, double spaced) similar to the way Adichie and Richard Rodriguez took a stance and developed their argument through storytelling. Please back your arguments through scholarly sources (MLA citation) and personal anecdotes.
General Gist of my Topic: The generational wealth gap has been on the rise since America was first founded in 1776. And it continuously seems to increase as more and more immigrants migrate to America in hopes of “living the American dream”. In fact, immigrant parents are probably the main reason why their children struggle to close the generational wealth gap. Don’t get me wrong, I am not an ungrateful child or anything and I do think our parents have done a lot for us to get us to where we are today. But, there are just so many patterns and mistakes being made that cause the gap to increase.
Some reasons as to why:
1 – Immigrant parents become content with just making it to America and are afraid to explore or try anything new.
2 – Lack of parental guidance, involvement, and compassion due to constantly having to provide to make ends meet.
3 – Afraid to assimilate any further because they do not know how or will lose their cultural values.
Please include more reasons if you have…
Please also include my personal anecdotes as a Bengali child growing up with immigrant parents:
– Parents were just content with coming to America
– afraid to explore/try new things
– Always tells/reminds us what they gave us and how we are obligated to help them
– Help them do their taxes
– Read mail, letters, and papers for them
– Work and any money we earned went to them (entitled)
– (Rmb my first paycheck went to feeding my family)
– Different ideals and way of life (can’t look at my parents while talking vs have to look at people while talking) culture
– Gets mad if we talk to them in English because they don’t understand or afraid that we will forget how to speak native language. Resulting in our English being worse than natural born English speakers.
You may alternate between informal and formal speech when storytelling and providing evidence.
