Understanding the evidence-based care of the patient with sepsis and septic shock is of the utmost importance for an RN. As you have learned in this module, caring for a patient in septic shock is a medical emergency, and requires prompt intervention and the implementation the evidence-based Sepsis 1-Hour Bundle.
Based upon what you have learned in this module, and through the assigned readings, write an initial discussion post that addresses:
What is the difference from sepsis and septic shock?
Identify two causes of sepsis in the hospitalized patient?
What are the physiologic changes the RN would notice when assessing a patient in septic shock?
Identify three priority management interventions the RN would expect the physician to order for a patient newly diagnosed with septic shock.
Response to Others
In your response to two peers:
Identify one additional intervention that should be ordered by the physician and provide rationale for selecting the additional intervention. Include a well-developed question that fosters additional thought and conversation.
Your responses will be graded using the Discussion Question Grading Rubric.
Your initial post is due by Thursday at 11:59 PM EST. Your responses are due by Sunday at 11:59 PM EST.
Discussion Guidelines
Posts need to be written in a professional manner. The content should have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Professionals communicate using correct grammar and spelling. It is acceptable to use a grammar or spelling editor prior to submitting your post. Language that is disrespectful or discourteous is not acceptable. Your posts should be of sufficient length to answer the question, but information that is extraneous or irrelevant will not strengthen your post.
The purpose of the discussion is to explore topics and to share information. Your original thought about the question is important. It is acceptable to use personal experiences from a professional standpoint. Your information and opinions should have support from the textbooks, professional position statements, and journals. It is not acceptable to copy and paste information from outside sources without using direct quotes. It is preferable to paraphrase information. When you restate the information in your own words by paraphrasing, you demonstrate that you have read about the topic and that it has meaning to you. You are showing that you can apply the information.
Evaluation
Your work in the discussion will be assessed using the AD Nursing Discussion Rubric. Please review this rubric prior to beginning your work to ensure your participation meets the criteria in place for this discussion.
