Although I say “everyone gets a trophy” a little tongue & cheek because the philosophy itself drives me a bit crazy. It is important to recognize the efforts of those around us on a regular basis. Not too much that it ceases to reinforce positive behavior but probably more than you currently are doing.
In clinical, when I worked with students in the ICU, it became necessary for me to make a conscious effort to point out the positives that a student had performed throughout a shift; since it is not in my nature to congratulate a student on performing a task that they were expected to know. But a little reinforcement can go a long way in helping to calm fears and bring out the best in students.
How do you reinforce positive behavior, what specific actions do you take, and do you respond better with a little positive recognition? What do the authors have to say about this???
Pose a question to your fellow classmates which demonstrates you did more than simply skim this week’s reading assignment.
