Topic: As a group, come up with a community based problem that you would like to research and further examine. For the purpose of this assignment, the term community is used loosely. You can address a local community issue as in something we struggle with at Mission College, Sylmar, San Fernando Valley, or you can get broader and focus on an issue that pertains to Los Angeles, Southern California, or even California as a state (although that may be getting a little too broad). Your group should select an issue that it believes would interest and benefit the class as well as all group members.
It should be something that is of social significance and value. The issue should be approved by the instructor. Groups will complete an outline and be required to present a dynamic presentation regarding the community problem (who it impacts, how, etc), causes of the problem, and should come up with solutions or ways to solve this problem.
Address what the problem is, why it is a problem, disadvantages we face as a result, who it impacts, etc.
What are some causes to this problem?
Describe your group solution in detail. Address how/why your solution will work, how it will benefit the public, how it can be implemented, etc.
Provide Supporting Evidence and research for each section.
Research/Sources: The group should develop a plan for collecting information. One suggestion is for each group member to be responsible for researching a different aspect of the topic. You will need to reference a minimum of 4 credible sources. They should not be just websites.
Outline: The group will need to develop a through, full-sentence outline for this project. The outline should be in the problem-cause-solution format. All outlines should include in-text citations and a work-cited page. A sample outline is provided in the following page to give you an idea of what a group outline should look like.
