Introduction
The privacy and security of PHI should be a priority for all covered entities. However, as you have learned from your readings, there are many common and overlapping HIPAA violations among covered entities. Many of these violations result in hefty fines, resolution agreements, and corrective action plans. It is important to learn from these violations when constructing effective privacy and security programs and ensuring HIPAA compliance among covered entities.
Please answer the following questions based on your understanding of this week’s readings and instructional materials:
Were you surprised to find some of the recurring themes of HIPAA violations?
Do you think the sanctions imposed upon violating covered entities are fair?
Do you think these common violations can be easily prevented?
What recommendations would you provide to covered entities for preventing these violations?
