1) Some people criticize the concept of intersectionality as “identity politics” where people are not seen as individuals but solely as representatives of groups who share certain identity markers (e.g. race). What is your reaction to this critique from an education standpoint?
2) One of the challenges of cooperative learning is grouping students. Students tend to want to be grouped with their friends and ignore those students who are not part of their “pack.” I also see students who are placed in groups who prefer to do solitary work or students who don’t “carry their weight” in the group.
Talk about your challenges with cooperative learning especially when it comes to grouping, assigning roles, keeping students on task, grading and having students respect time limits. If you are a preservice teacher, talk about your experiences with cooperative learning and how you will address the challenges of this important model.
Preservice teachers, remember that you are grouped with an inservice teacher. Please ask your group inservice teacher a question about this model and react/respond/comment on what s/he posts. If there is no inservice content teacher, than just post and respond as you normally do.
