The culmination of your country research project is a timeline of major event. This timeline is worth 10 percent of your overall grade. Students will compile a timeline of 5 events from 1815 to the present that are of significance to the history of their selected country. Timelines will include images and 200-300 word explanations of each event and how it connects to the larger history of the country and to the major themes from our class. Each timeline should also have an overarching argument related to the history of the country you are researching. In a sense, you should respond to the question: How would you define the last 200 years of your country’s history? Each slide should somehow provide evidence to support your answer to that question. You need to incorporate at least 7 secondary sources (scholarly articles and books) and 3 primary sources. While it is not required, one primary source you can use is the country’s constitution, which can be found here (https://www.constituteproject.org/). Sources should be cited in Chicago format. You can site all of your sources at the end of the slideshow on a slide titled References. Explanations should give a brief overview of the event, explain why it is significant, and how it relates to larger themes that we’ve discussed in class (industrialization, nationalism, rise of dictators, anti-colonization movements, warfare, urbanization, social changes, etc…).
Your timeline will be graded on the following criteria:
Number of Events: 10 points
Number of Sources: 10 points
Proper Citations: 10 points
Summary of Events: 20 points
Connection to Larger Themes: 30 points
Overarching Argument for Timeline: 20 points
