The Assignment-
In this paper you will give an example of how you perform the “presentation of self” techniques in your daily life, by describing a social role you perform.
We perform many social roles throughout our daily life. Give an example of a dramaturgy analysis of a social role you perform. Choose One role that you perform (student, employee, parent, sibling, spouse, etc.)
Front Stage Performance:
What social role do you perform?
What is the status (ascribed or achieved) Remember a status is a position we occupy, and we play a role attached to each status?
Where does the setting take place? (School, work, home, etc.)
What does your appearance look like, to perform your role? give examples i.e. I wear dark slacks namely black sometimes grey and colorful printed tops. My shoes are mainly white sneekers. My hair is combed into a ponytail.
What types of mannerism do you use to perform your role? how do they change when you come into contact different people (see above for clarification, where I talk about performing one role)
What types of scriipts (tools) do you use to perform your role?
Paper Format:
Name, course, date upper left corner
Paper Title- after name, date and course in middle of paper
12pt font, double space, Times Roman, standard margins, 3 pages minimum
Your paper should follow an organized thought pattern:
Write a brief introduction paragraph clearly stating the social role you are performing. Also talk about how you will address Goffman’s theory Dramaturgy to present your social role.
The body of your paper will address; how you perform your role as stated above under “Front Stage performance” list above
Conclusion: What did you learn from this assignment?
Remember to (define/explain and operationalize) all concepts used in paper and cite sources within your paper using in-test citations and include a reference page (Works Cited) at the end of your paper. Use ASA style (look in “Resources, Assignments and Exam Dates” module under resources (ASA style) for clarificaiton.
