Az Metro to Pay $300,000 to Settle EEOC Age Discrimination Law Suit
The EEOC filed a law suit against AZ Metro for age discrimination against two of their oldest employees. The employees in question were men in their sixties who where released from their job. AZ Metro Distributers, LLC distributes Arizona Ice Tea, and had expressed that they wanted to take their marketing in a different direction and want their employees to be younger in age.
In the end AZ Metro had to pay $300,000 for loss of wages and liquidated damages. Thy also have to participate in significant non-monetary relief designed to prevent further discrimination.
The fact that these men were fired due to their age made this a violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
Age discrimination is almost illegal in all fifty state, as it should be. A persons age should not determine their abilities to work, live, or be independent. I work with people well in their 70’s who are more than capable of doing what they were hired to do, they are physically fit, and have rights just like younger people do.

St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones signs bill banning discrimination based on hair
ST. LOUIS– In 2019, California became the first state in the country to pass The CROWN Act, which stands for Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural hair. The measure made it illegal to discriminate against black employees or students based on their hairstyles. Since then, other states including Washington, New York, Colorado, and Virginia have passed similar pieces of legislation.
On Friday, St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones signed the bill into law.
“Hair discrimination is discrimination and so many black and brown people with natural or curly hair have faced discrimination in the workplace in other places or in school for a long time, ” she said.
The new law prohibits “discrimination in employment and housing decisions including, without limitation hiring, advancement and compensation and discrimination in housing practices based upon an individual’s hairstyle, protective hair, or natural or cultural hair texture or style.”
A similar bill was introduced for consideration by the St. Louis County Council last month. Kansas City already has an ordinance in effect.
