Chapter 1: Introduction to Operations and Supply Chain Management sets the stage for the study of operations management and generate interest for everyone in the class. The operations function involves organizing work, selecting processes, arranging layouts, locating facilities, designing jobs, measuring performance, controlling quality, scheduling work, managing inventory, and planning production. The chapter wraps up with some practice on one of the key skills you need to learn.

Describe what the operations function is and how it relates to other business functions.
Discuss the key factors that have contributed to the evolution of operations and supply chain management.
Discuss how and why businesses operate globally, and the importance of globalization in supply chain management.
Calculate and interpret productivity measures used for measuring competitiveness.

Chapter 2: Quality Management introduces one of the most critical processes for effective operations, quality management. This chapter will include topics like the evolution of quality management, tools for solving quality problems, six sigma, cost of quality and quality awards and certifications.
