This 10-12 page research paper (due December 18th) builds on what you’ve already practiced in your text analysis papers. This time you’ll be choosing a biblical text that’s used in some form of media—in this case I’m suggesting that you choose a song or a political event. Think about it as Text Analysis Plus—you’ll follow the same pattern of text analysis as before, but you’ll be considering a text that shows up in current events (No earlier than 1960). The assignment should have 3 parts:
5-6 Pages of text analysis (as per usual with thesis, 2 articles, etc.)
Note: The thesis should include both the biblical text AND the piece of media
1-2 pages describing the use of the text in media
4-6 pages engaging with the interpretive strategy of this text’s use
What is the role of this text here? How does the text function?
What was the point of using this text? Why here? Why now?
What kinds of bias/agenda do you perceive in the use of this text?
Based on your analysis, does this use make sense in light of the text itself and its historical context?
