Structure and length: Five paragraphs (introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion). Introductory paragraph: Introduce the authors, texts, and main topics. End with your
thesis statement. Your thesis statement must identify the chief differences.
Body paragraphs: Make sure that each of your body paragraphs supports your thesis statement. Begin each body paragraph with a topic sentence. Every sentence that follows the topic sentence MUST support and or relate to, the topic sentence.
Concluding paragraph: Revisit your thesis, using a different language. Connect personally with the main idea or difference you’ve discovered in these two versions.
Tone/Voice: Remember that your job is analysis and contrast. You are not writing about yourself, so avoid all self-references (“I” pronoun). Stick to the facts, topics, and ideas. Important: Find evidence for every claim you make.
Technical Knowledge: Your chief task in this essay is to isolate and explain the major differences between these two versions of the Little Red Riding hood story. However, use your knowledge of the terms you have studied (conflict, plot, character, narrator, point of view, setting, theme). In your analysis/contrast, refer to at least three of these, at a minimum.
Style: Avoid repetition!
