Students will identify an approved historical trend in child or adolescent development from the list below. Students will research the history of a current policy or law that was created and/or modified that addresses the increase or improvement of child development. Students will identify the source of the original problem or inspiration for the original policy, how the policy recommendation was updated and with what data or information and the current policy recommendations.
The completed paper contains the following components:
The current law or policy recommendation as it exists today. What is the new practice and who is recommending it? This could be a government agency, organization or professional association, i.e. the AMA.
Who is affected and how. What domain of child development is being affected?
Data on the original practice or guideline. Why was it believed to be a good or effective practice? Provide evidence or support
Why were changes needed? Provide support
What practices or actions were taken throughout the lifetime or history of the problem? What has been the evolution of current thinking? This should include a timeline and supporting evidence.
Good or bad unintended effects of changes. Provide support.
Any data to suggest it is an effective solution or that more changes need to be made.
Students will use at least 10 reputable, verifiable sources, 5 of which must be peer-reviewed research articles from professional journals using library databases. Other sources could include government websites, professional organizations or reputable news sources. Personal blogs, newsletters, wikipedia or other sources based on personal opinions or experiences are not appropriate.
You will integrate the results from these studies and the information from the textbook into your final paper. Students will submit a 3-4 page maximum, type-written paper using APA style describing the information about their policy. This paper should utilize the same headings and provide detailed, complete descriptions of each requirement.
All information must be cited within text and on a separate reference page using APA style formatting.
