Throughout Modules 3 and 4, you will be given an explanation and examples of the way that inequality is built into the social structure using the framework that Patricia Hill Collins outlines. For this assignment, you must:
• Briefly state an overview of an event or occasion which you have read about in the news or other reliable sources that would be an example of structured inequality
• Specify which social location is affected
• Identify an example of structured inequality and locate it within Patricia Hill Collins’s analytical framework.
• Shine a light on how that inequality is intentionally built into the social structure.
• Using Patricia Hill Collins’s template, identify the various domains (layers) that inequality can be built into a society’s social structure.
• Specify which of the 4 elements of society you are referring to (Structural, Disciplinary, Hegemonic or Interpersonal).
• Using your own words, give an explanation of how that domain contributes to structural inequality
• Give an explanation of how your example fits into that domain
• For current events, you can go to a trusted news source (High/Very High in Facts and Little to no partisan bias) and just do a search for the topic you are interested in. Another option would be to just google the topic you are interested in and the word oppression or discrimination
• For historical events, you might check into: 1. Social Construction of Race: Audrey Smedley~~ (Look for the main ideas, do not get bogged down in ideas/language that you might not immediately understand) 2. Wealth Gap between Blacks and White: Please read and watch:
