I think the reason there are so many different leadership theories is that people are always trying to find that perfect mold to look for when it comes to leaders. It would make things so much easier if we could just hold up a card and check off the traits, or to hand someone a book and say “This is everything you need to know about leadership” and call it a day. But the nuances of leadership are difficult to pin down I think, not that these theorists haven’t done a great job in defining different styles of leadership.
I feel like if we were going to create a new leadership style, we could add balance into the mix. I’ll be rereading the text to make sure I didn’t miss anything, but I don’t think I saw balancing all of these traits and tasks that leaders need to accomplish to be good leaders amongst the theories. Knowing how to balance all of the things you need to do and care about is a big part of being able to successfully lead people.

Good morning classmates and professor,
I’ll be answering Option 2
I believe that the reason why there’s so many leadership theories is that the concept is as old as civilization itself. Leaders throughout history each have demonstrated how they influenced individuals to follow them. Some run things authoritatively, democratically, etc. Although recently the number of leadership theories have been condensed to a manageable list, the list itself still shows a considerable number of theories of how one leads. Each person that has tried to define leadership may have based it on their own experiences and views on the concept. A doctor may have a different definition of leadership than a military serviceman.
During his time in the U.S. Air Force, my father is reminded of a quote from one of his supervisors: “Train your replacement.” From what I’ve seen in previous courses, I believe that leadership theories focused more on the leader than those around said leader. There may come a time when the leader is taking a vacation, his or her services are unavailable, or is out of commission. The replacement in charge must be capable of maintaining the organization until the leader’s return.
