This is a paper about Thyroid storm I know this goes without saying but I’ve had bad experiences in the past PLEASE seamlessly transition between each area to be covered. This is a discussion for medical professionals, absolutely NO layman terminology or over simplification of any aspect of this paper. Furthermore I do not want small details regarding tests and their values. Where relevant include what tests are done to assist in confirming the diagnosis. I will include articles and figures to be added to the paper. Please add the algorithm for diagnosis and management as appendices and make reference to them where appropriate. Though this will be a paper on Thyroid storm diagnosis and management I would like a comparison between to two major scoring systems for Thyroid storm 1. Burch and Wartofsky 2. Japanese Scoring System for Thyroid Storm If there aren’t direct comparisons in literature, perhaps find articles specific to the utility each scoring system in regards to diagnosing thyroid storm. I have included an independent study out of Hamilton which can be used to speak to the utility of the Burch and wartofsky scoring system. Please find additional studies that will speak to the utility/challenges of using Burch/wartofsky and Japanese Scoring system independently. The format for the paper should be as follows: 1. Outline Anatomy of the Thyroid Gland-reference article titled Thyroid Anatomy 2. Define Thyrotoxicosis-Differentiate between Hyperthyroidism vs Thyrotoxicosis w/o Hyperthyroidism (please include the figure on causes)-**Reference Hyperthyroidism article 3. Define Thyroid Storm 4. Speak about the epidemiology of thyroid storm-particularly the incidence, morbidity and mortality; the pathophysiology of thyroid storm (you can use “main thyroid article” and the “pandey 2019”, as well as other article sources you can find, perhaps 2 others) 5. Speak about the clinical features of thyroid storm, for the most part they are similar to general features of Hyperthyroidism-***please include the figure 6. Please reference the algorithm for diagnosis 7. Please include the two figures for the difference scoring systems Burch/Japanese a. Speak about the utility of each, pros and cons with at least 3 or 4 references to support this 8. Go through algorithm of treating Thyroid storm; you could label each section as you address it ( supportive measures and speaking about what this entails, ). This information is in the “main thyroid article”, however I would like the reasoning behind each step and I think that is well laid out in the “Japan guidelines article”. So basically this section can be a combination of the two articles. The sections for this area will be as follows a. Supportive Care-make certain in this section to highlight that for fever the patient must not receive Aspirin for pyrexia as this will displace thyroid hormone from protein binding sites and worsen condition b. Inhibiting New Thyroid Hormone synthesis c. Inhibit release of Thyroid Hormone d. Inhibit peripheral effects of thyroid hormone e. Inhibit Enterohepatic circulation of hormone
