The research you would usually do for a research paper, using at least four academic sources sources, on any topic we have covered this semester. But instead of a paper, you will create a 80s style zine based on your research. A ‘zine is a fun but meaty format for making ideas accessible (materially and academically) to others.
It’s an alternate format that has seen a recent resurgence in the pandemic. I’m attaching below a pdf copy of the assignment zine that shows the format and size expectations for your project. You will read and absorb your research and then think about how to make it accessible to people beyond the university.
Your zine is 12 pages total –or three 8 ½ x 11 pieces of paper folded in half to make a booklet. The outside page is strictly a cover and may have a blank interior. The bulk of your writing is on the eight internal pages. You may include pictures, graphics, artwork,
infographics, whatever you can use to illustrate your topic. Citations may be informal (Gallardo, 32) with just author and page, as long as you include a complete (and properly formatted) bibliography on your last page. Your zine text should be roughly 1100-13
Requirements: 1300 words
