Go to the IDB data web page of the Census Bureau website (https://www.census.gov/data-tools/demo/idb/informationGateway.php)
You will choose 3 countries outside of the United States. These three countries should be selected from different regions (e.g. 1 from Southeast Asia, 1 from central Africa, 1 from the Caribbean); also, they should not repeat the same selection as any others in the class. Since there are so many regions in the world that contain many possible combinations, so you should be able to avoid the same choices.
First of all, select the type of report– “Population pyramid Graph”
Next, select “Your 3 Countries” on the right and then pick up three “years” (2000, 2020, and 2050) on the left. You can make multiple choices by holding the Control key (or Command key if you use Mac computer).
For the “Aggregation Options”, choose to “show both individual and aggregated data”. You don’t need to select region(s) for this activity.
Then, click “submit”.
You should see 9 population pyramid graphs generated from the database you just selected.
Discuss the following questions from the results you generated about your countries:
Please provide brief introductions about the location, population, and history of the three countries you selected.
How the population pyramids different between the three countries across the three different time periods?
Which one is younger and which one is older from the pyramids? Why? Please copy/paste your pyramid graphs for the references to your discussion.
Compared to the sex structure of your countries, whether male or female populations live longer over the years?
