Students are required to complete a written summary and analysis of 700–1000 words, where 700 is the minimum and 1000 is the maximum, critically evaluating the provided quantitative (statistical) article by Vanderleeuw et al. (2015) as published in Public Administration Quarterly. Students will read and analyze the article, then produce a report that addresses the following:
• Identify the research question(s) and stated hypothesis/hypotheses
• Identify the data gathering instrument(s) used (e.g., survey)
• Identify the sample size and sampling approach (e.g., random, snowball)
• Provide a brief discussion of the author(s)’ methodology and study design (e.g., correlational, causal comparative)
• Provide a brief summary of the reported findings
• Discuss AND critique the inferences/conclusions drawn by the authors
The analysis should be organized with APA formatted subheadings (refer to Section 2.27 in the Publication Manual). The assignment must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx) OR a Portable Document Format (PDF) if created in another application like Google Docs or Apple Pages. Assignments must be submitted via the assignment portal on Blackboard and may NOT be emailed. Students may earn full, partial, or no credit based on the quality of the essay when measured against the assignment rubric. At minimum the article being evaluated must be cited and appropriately referenced. No additional sources, other than the article being analyzed, are required but may be used.
The assignment must have an APA formatted cover page, and a comprehensive reference list of all sources at the end. No abstract or table of contents is required. Formatting must be consistent with the requirements of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th edition. Pay particular attention to proper citation and reference format, subheadings, spacing, etc.
