Apply McAdam’s concepts and theorizing about political opportunity, indigenous organization in the Black community, and cognitive liberation to explain the rise of the contemporary Black Lives Matter movement.
Specifically, what was the political opportunity situation the Black Lives Matter movement faced? What role did pre-existing organizations in the Black community have in promoting the movement? What does McAdam mean by “cognitive liberation,” and were there any developments in the beliefs in the Black community that led to the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement?
As in other assignments, the assignment page continues to be available one day after the due date. However, submissions after the due date and time are subject to a 30% grade penalty. It is not possible to submit after the “available until” date and time shown. If you can’t or don’t submit, your grade is zero.

70 percent or less of the 180 points. Question not answered, answered briefly, or answered in stock generalities with little relation to reading. Little evidence of a grasp of McAdam’s main arguments.
85 percent. Questions answered with details and examples. Each of McAdams’s assigned chapters are addressed. Almost all of the required readings and viewings in week 4 and week 5 are used and cited. Logical presentation.
95 percent or above. Questions 1 and 2 answered with full details and examples. Logical presentation. All of the required readings and viewings in week 4 and week 5 are used and cited. Shows evaluation, analysis, synthesis, awareness of the limits of evidence, and other critical thinking skills. Points to larger significance and context of meaning,
