Written Paper
Your written assignment should be a thorough, fully developed paper. It is not a short answer to the bullet points below. Those are simply guidelines for information which you should include in your paper. While there is not an actual page requirement, in the past most papers have been between 3-5 pages minimum. Your paper needs to include a minimum of 2 scholarly resources (following the APA guidelines). Scholarly resources may be from an assigned article, additional resources included in this module, or additional research you have done. You may want to review the guidelines for Scholarly Resources in graduate school Academic Quality Resources – What it means. For example, Wikipedia is not a scholarly resource. For this research paper, you will focus on understanding about Codes of Ethics within organizations and professions. I recommend for the next 3 papers you choose a company you are very familair with (if you are currently employed or have been in the past it will make these assignments easier and more meaningful). As a reminder, this should be a fully developed paper, with a minimum of 3 references (2 need to be scholarly). The textbook may be included as one of your resources. When comparing codes, be sure to cite all codes per the APA format.
Complete assignment 2 and submit your fully developed paper using the module’s drop box to the instructor. Work should be saved in one of the following formats: DOC, DOCX, or PDF. Remember your work should be original (as the Plagiarism Detection software will produce an Originality Score which should be 30% or under). Keep direct quotes to an absolute minimum (paraphrase and include proper citations is a better approach).
All papers are considered confidential. Instructors would never release information from a paper or post a paper without a student’s written consent.
Your paper should address the following information:
What is the difference between a code of ethics, code of conduct, a mission statement, and policy and procedures?
Review an organization’s code of ethics. Students prefer to choose an organization which they are currently or have previously been employed. There are 3 papers required in this course based on your specific company. You would be adding to your workload by choosing one you needed to do additional research on. I am not looking for business research papers on these topics. All topics need to be focused on ethics and have original content.
Start the section on your organization by explaining organization and what it does (structure, business, your relationship, etc.)
Does this organization have a formal code of ethics? If yes, had you reviewed the code beyond your first day of hire?
If not, are elements of a code included in other documents (employee handbook, policy and procedures, etc.)?
Review various aspects of this code (strengths and weaknesses).
How does the code (or other document) instill trust and integrity to its employees? customers? community?
Compare your organization’s code to others in the same industry (i.e., a competitor). What are the similiarities? Differences?
Codes should be reviewed periodically, and revised to reflect current goals and objectives. All codes can be improved upon. How would you strengthen this code? You need at least 2 suggestions for improvement.
Include references and proper citations per APA style format.
